The international authors will share their insights from interviews with innovative teachers from across 11 countries, highlighting how personal characteristics, professional abilities, and contextual conditions interact to shape innovation in teachers’ practice. The ongoing ambiguity surrounding ‘innovation’ in teaching will be discussed, with a focus on how international education policies influence teacher innovativeness. Policy contradictions will be explored and we will argue for a counter narrative for teacher innovation – one underpinned by humanistic aims, focusing on innovation for transformative practice that benefits all learners.
