Erasmus+ demystified: An interview with our Faculty coordinator

09.02.2026

Wondering whether an Erasmus+ mobility is right for you? Find out what Anna Dziejma, Erasmus+ Coordinator for students at the Faculty of Education, University of Białystok, has to say about the programme and why it's worth taking the leap:

Many students have heard of Erasmus but still hesitate. Why, in your opinion, is it worth deciding on mobility?

Erasmus+ is far more than just studying abroad. It is an opportunity to gain international experience, meet new people, explore different cultures and educational systems. Students return with greater self-confidence, improved foreign language skills, and competencies that are highly valued on the job market. It is an investment in yourself that pays dividends throughout your life.

Students often worry about the language barrier. Is this a serious obstacle?

Absolutely not. You do not need to speak the language perfectly to go on Erasmus. Many courses are taught in English, and partner universities offer language courses on-site. Moreover, the best way to learn a language is through daily use - students quickly break through the barrier and make tremendous progress.

What about finances? Is Erasmus expensive?

The Erasmus+ programme offers a grant that helps cover living costs abroad. Of course, much depends on the destination country, but for most students, the mobility is financially accessible. Additionally, there are various forms of support available, including for students with fewer opportunities. In our office, we always help find the best solution.

Which mobility destinations are most popular among UwB students?

Students often choose Spain, Italy, Portugal, or Finland. We have a wide range of partner universities, so everyone can find a place suited to their field of study and interests.

Many students wonder whether Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) are a good form of mobility. Are they really worth it?

Definitely worth it. BIP is an excellent option, especially for students who want to try mobility but cannot go abroad for an entire semester. The programme combines an online component with a short, intensive stay abroad. Students work in international teams, earn ECTS credits, receive an Erasmus+ grant, and often BIP becomes the starting point for further mobility adventures.

Is Erasmus only about studying?

No! It also includes internships abroad. This is a great option for students who want to gain professional experience in an international environment. Having that on your CV really makes a difference.

What would you say to students who are still hesitating?

Do not postpone this decision "for later". Erasmus is an adventure that often changes the way you think about the world and about yourself. It is a moment when you can step out of your comfort zone - and that is exactly where the most interesting things happen. If you have questions or doubts, please get in touch. We are here to help.

In one sentence - Erasmus is…?

An opportunity truly worth seizing.
